My Story
Hello and welcome. I’m Glen Wagner and I’m the person behind the ideas/images/stories and overall content you’ll find at www.glenwagner.com. I’ve been creating, enjoying, running, suffering, growing, speaking, leading, consulting and living this adventure for several decades and this is my first move to bring my thinking, questions and experiences to a wider audience digitally and online. Thanks for checking it out.
My plan is to share some of the insights I’ve gained, questions I wrestle with and ideas I’m passionate about with the hope that some of you will find it helpful. If you do, fantastic, I’m genuinely humbled and grateful. If you dont find this site helpful in some way thanks for stopping by anyway. May your journey be fruitful.
The difficulty for me is that when I read about “blogging strategies” from people who’ve had real success in building a tribe on the web, for the most part they say, “focus on one theme”, or “niche down on one core topic” or “ask what your market wants”. This is the way to build a personal brand, get content read and build a following of people who come back for more. I understand this is sound wisdom. As a strategist I’ve offered similar wisdom to many CEO and entreprenurial clients over the years. I get it!
So that wisdom sounds good…but what if my real theme is the strange and wonderful connections between the seemingly disparate but related pieces of my life and I suspect others lives as well? What if being a great consultant is in many ways driven by my experience as a pastor, traveler, diver, photographer?
What if my diving experiences have taught me a lot about friendships, travel tips, the physiology of anxiety and the best way to shoot macro images? What if my journey to triathlon fitness, has been deeply impacted by my fighting with Borderline Personality Disorder, anxiety and depression and I’ve learned a lot about the interplay between whole food based nutrition, cold showers, resting heart rate and the neurobiology underlying endurance sports?
What if my coaching of leaders has taken me from high energy/high stakes boardroom meetings to mission clinics at the garbage dump in Gualan Guatemala and I see a direct correlation between the leadership challenges of each?
Do all of these go in separate boxes? Should I build a separate website for each one? Should I dismiss some as irrelevant or keep them “personal”? Maybe…maybe somewhere down the road that is exactly what I’ll do, but for right now it feels better and right for me to just start writing, speaking through video/audio posts, sharing some images and stories and working through my own thinking in digitally.

The Things I'm Passionate About
Underwater Adventures & Environmental Conservation
The oceans, scuba diving, underwater imaging and travel have been my passion for over 50 years. It's a privilege to explore the deep, but how are we humans impacting these precious ecosystems? How can I use my images and stories to reveal the beauty and fragility of these underwater worlds to those who may never get to see them?
Leadership, Culture, & Personal Growth
The intertwining of leadership, culture, strategy and context has always fascinated me. What makes some cultures cultivate excellence while others foster destruction? What truly constitutes effective and joyful leadership? Let's dive deep into these subjects.
Mental Health & High Performance
I've been through the grinder of mental health challenges, recovery, and navigating the states of FLOW and high performance. I've battled BPD, Addiction, Anxiety, Depression, and have learned a great deal along the way. Join me as we navigate these complex waters and strive for growth and resilience.
Spirituality, Consciousness & the Human Condition
Theology, spirituality, atheism, the mystery of consciousness, the absurdity and wonder of life itself – these are not easy topics, but they are ones that I am deeply invested in. These questions and reflections touch on some of the most profound aspects of our existence.
Physical Wellness & Self-Optimization
Science, innovations, muscle building, endurance sports, training, recovery, nutrition – these disciplines are all part of the pursuit of physical wellness and longevity. Moreover, I'm fascinated by the quantified self – the concept that we are all subjects of self-experimentation and can use data for self-improvement.
Emerging Technologies & Modern Culture
Artificial intelligence, deep learning, predictive analytics impact our lives in ways we couldn't have imagined a few years ago. And let's not forget about the arts, literature, music, podcasts, documentaries, TED talks - all of these contents that push my thinking and add richness to life.
